The Story Behind
The Craft
Every meaningful journey begins with a passion, and the story of VIHA Handicrafts begins with Mr. Muthukumar. Born and raised in Kanadukathan, the cultural heart of Chettinad, he grew up surrounded by magnificent heritage mansions, intricate wooden carvings, handcrafted brass sculptures, and centuries-old artistic traditions.
For over 25 years, he served as a Merchant Navy Officer, travelling across the world. While every country had its own artistic identity, one thought remained constant—the unmatched beauty and cultural richness of Chettinad's traditional handicrafts.
After retiring and settling in Kovaipudur, Coimbatore, Mr. Muthukumar decided to turn his lifelong passion into a meaningful purpose. Rather than allowing traditional craftsmanship to disappear, he envisioned a platform that would preserve these art forms while creating sustainable opportunities for local artisans. That vision became VIHA Handicrafts.
